So often when Icelandic families travel together there is always a speculation at the airport (in foreign countries) whither the children are actually the children of these parents because none of them share the same last name. We have a different last name system then the traditional western type, we use the same system as the vikings used (my ancestors). I’m going with two examples here below to explain this naming system.

I have a whole part of my bookshelf that is dedicated to artistic books and anything related to that; art books, designer books, embroidery, knitting, fashion ext. celebrating with icelandic lummur (recipe included)


After coming home after my last exam and my first day back to school I decided to celebrate by making lummur, an icelandic treat that is similar to American pancakes, thicker than the nordic pancakes. They’re smaller than the American ones with raisins in them, we eat them by sprinkling some sugar on top. Well at least that’s the tradition in my family, you could put jam and cheese if you like, I sometimes do that these days. Continue reading
